Top Tracks: “American Dream,” “You Are There,” “Daisy’s Song”
Dominic Balli calls his style “CaliRockReggae.” Good description. His sophomore American Dream rides West Coast vibes, but the head bobbin’ sound crosses state lines with ease. Sonny Sandoval (P.O.D.) appears to give lead single “American Dream” a heavier edge. And “Daisy’s Song,” a sparse, prayerful anthem for those facing pain, channels the acoustic soulfulness of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.” Balli mostly blends his reggae beats with pop hooks and hip hop grooves a la tobyMac or Wyclef Jean. Heavy-handed production mars a few such tracks. Still, it’s a fresh collection where faith, hope, and mostly love rule the day.
