Top Tracks: “Wasted Life,” “Addicted to My Pain,” “Never Too Far Gone”

Seventh Day Slumber’s eighth album plays like a prayer journal and is strongest when it unleashes the axes. It’s passionate about forgiveness over failure and honest in tackling pain with lyrics such as “I can’t believe I’m sober / I can’t believe I’m clean” (“My Life”). But the collection is quickly predictable. Arrangements are simplistic. Lyrics struggle to find creative metaphors, opting instead for heart-on-its-sleeve lines such as “I just want to sit in Your arms / Even if you don’t speak / It’s cool with me” (“Back Where I Began”). The unadorned emotion should resonate and infuse hope into adolescent angst, but mature listeners will find it generic.
