Top tracks: “Georgia Lee,” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”

Was it Jesus or Jagger who said God will supply what we need, but not necessarily what we want? “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.” To Justin McRoberts, it’s still truth, regardless of the source. In this terrific album of covers, the talented folk singer hits the Stones, Waits, Petty, Nine Inch Nails, Aimee Mann, The Smiths and more. “These songs have been central to the necessary undoing of the limitations I habitually place on God—expectations of how, where, and through whom God is revealed,” McRoberts says. “I recognize God in their art and I believe it is [my] duty to point him out where he is, and celebrate him there.”
