Died • David Barrett, noted missions researcher and founding editor of the World Christian Encyclopedia, on August 4 in Virginia. He was 83.
Named • Jackie Patillo, as executive director of the Gospel Music Association. Patillo most recently served as vice president of artist development at Sony’s Verity Music.
Died • Eugene Nida, creator of the “dynamic equivalence” approach to Bible translation, which made the Bible accessible in hundreds of languages, on August 25 in Brussels. He was 96. (Tributes & obituary)
Died • Robert P. Evans, noted evangelist who founded Greater European Mission and co-founded Youth for Christ, on July 28 in Florida. He was 93.
Elected • John Bradosky, as bishop of the North American Lutheran Church. The denomination formed after a split from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America last year.
Named • Albert Reyes, as successor to Buckner International CEO Ken Hall. Reyes had previously served as president. Hall will retire at the end of April 2012.
Retiring • Ralph Fagin, as provost of Oral Roberts University, where he has worked in various capacities since 1972. He will step down at the end of the fall semester.
Died • Ross Coggins, Baptist missionary, USAID worker, and author of the poem “Send Me, O Lord, Send Me,” on August 1 in Maryland. He was 83.
Named • Christopher Calmer, as president of the Missouri Baptist Foundation. He succeeds James R. Smith, who retired from the position in 2010.
