Style: Eclectic (often electric), expressive, energetic worship
Top tracks: "Warrior," "Reveal Your Love," "How Long?"
Billed as a "radical re-envisioning of the hymns of Isaac Watts," this new project from the worship team at Sojourn Community Church in Louisville, Kentucky, delivers the promised goods. It's nigh impossible to improve on the lyrics of Watts, oft regarded as the father of English hymnody, and to Sojourn's credit, they don't even try. But musically, they're taking a few risks, trying a few experiments—and it mostly works. With tunes ranging from '70s style rock to modern indie pop, there are a couple of forgettable tracks, but for the most part, there's a lot to like here.
